Vintage Norway: Railways & Fjords (Flight Inc.)

DAY 1

Departing from London Heathrow on the morning Scandinavian Airlines flight to Norway. After landing at Oslo Airport, we will make our way to the Clarion Hotel, our hotel for the next four nights. Those on our Ground Only package will travel independently meeting us at the hotel and, after check-in, we enjoy free time to explore our new surroundings before dining at leisure.

DAY 2

This morning, we have time at leisure to discover Oslo using our included Osla Pass allowing unlimited travel on trams, the subway, buses, and public ferries plus entry to over thirty museums and attractions including the Oslo Transport Museum. This afternoon, we travel by rail to Sorumsand for a nostalgic ride behind steam on the narrow-gauge Urskog-Holand Railway, one of Norway's most charming heritage railways.

DAY 3

After breakfast this morning, we embark on a guided walking tour of Oslo that will lead us through the iconic landmarks of this enchanting city including the medieval Akershus Fortress, the panoramic Oslofjord, and the majestic Royal Palace. This evening, we experience Oslo from a different perspective aboard a traditional wooden sailing ship as we cruise along the Oslofjord, enjoying the picturesque scenery and savouring a delicious seafood buffet featuring local specialties.

DAY 4

Today, our private coach takes us to Gulsvik where we enjoy one of Norway's finest, heritage railway experiences combining a scenic cruise, a steam journey, and a restored vintage bus. We begin with our cruise aboard the historic MS Kryllingen II to Kroderen where we have time to explore the beautifully preserved railway station before boarding the famous Kroderbanen Steam Railway and journeying through idyllic Buskerud countryside to Sysle. Here, our vintage NSB bus completes our nostalgic circular transport journey to Noresund where we will retrace our steps to Oslo for an evening at leisure.

DAY 5

After breakfast this morning, we travel by rail to Bergen on one of the world's most beautiful train journeys travelling through nearly 500km of Norway's dramatic landscapes including forested valleys, stunning lakes, mountain villages, and snow-covered fjords. On arrival in Bergen, we transfer to the Scandic Ornen Hotel and check in for our four-night stay.

DAY 6

This morning, we enjoy a vintage tram ride through Bergen before taking the famous Floyen Funicular to the top of Mount Floyen. Climbing 320 metres in just six minutes, this historic railway is one of Norway's most popular attractions and offers spectacular views of the city, the fjord, and the surrounding mountains. There will be time to enjoy the scenery and explore the café, souvenir shop, and charming footpaths at the summit before returning to the city.

DAY 7

Today, we enjoy a fascinating heritage tour of Bergen beginning with a cruise aboard the beautifully restored steamship Stord I through scenic fjords to Garnes. Here, we join the Old Vossebane travelling behind steam in historic teak coaches and we journey through stunning landscapes with water on one side and steep mountainside on the other to Midttun. Our day concludes with a ride aboard a preserved vintage bus through the outskirts of Bergen before returning to our hotel for an evening at leisure.

DAY 8

After breakfast this morning, we take the train to Myrdal to join the famous Flam Railway, one of the world's most spectacular rail journeys and one of the leading attractions in Norway. Our journey takes us through dramatic mountain scenery, passing waterfalls, tunnels, and deep ravines whilst overcoming fantastically steep gradients and tight, winding curves before arriving in the picturesque village of Flam. From here, we cruise through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Naeroyfjord surrounded by towering mountains and waterfalls before reaching Gudvangen, where a private coach returns us to Bergen.

DAY 9

After our fantastic Norwegian adventure, we make our way to Bergen Airport for our late morning Scandinavian Airlines flight via Oslo to London Heathrow. Those on our Ground Only package will make their way independently to the airport for their chosen flight home.
