DAY 2
After breakfast this morning, we travel by rail to Laggesta for an authentic steam journey on the narrow-gauge Ostra Sodermanlands Railway to the quaint, lakeside village of Mariefred. Here, we have free time to visit the railway café, explore the fascinating showroom to learn the history of the railway, and take plenty of photographs. Afterwards, we board the vintage S/S Mariefred for a relaxing cruise across the beautiful Lake Malaren to Stockholm, enjoying our evening meal in the stylish dining room on board before returning by rail to Uppsala.
B, DDAY 3
Today, we travel by train to Gavle and join the vintage shuttle service to the Swedish Railway Museum with fantastic exhibitions telling the story of Sweden's railways, its construction, the people, and the travellers. We will also visit the magnificent Train Hall to stroll around one of the largest rail vehicle collections in the world including Prins August, the oldest operable steam locomotive in the world. This afternoon, we enjoy a narrow-gauge railcar ride to Lanna and indulge in a wine tasting and evening meal at a local restaurant before making the return journey to Uppsala.
B, DDAY 4
Today, our day passes allow us a full day riding behind steam on the 33km narrow-gauge Lennakatten Railway. Our nostalgic journey passes over the Uppsala plains, through the dense Vedyxa Forest, and alongside beautiful lakes to Faringe. Here, we have time to take lunch in the small station garden and to explore the collection of railway vehicles that are not currently running on the track from carefully restored vehicles to those awaiting renovation. On our return to Uppsala, we have an evening at leisure to relax at the hotel or dine at a local restaurant.
BDAY 5
This morning, we return by rail to Gavle where we join our private coach transfer to the Jadraas-Tallas Railway to experience their "Great Train Weekend" event. Our day passes allow unlimited rides behind the three steam locomotives that will be in action on an intensive service over the narrow-gauge line plus time to explore the stations buildings and visit the lineside cafés for refreshments. After an action-packed day, we return to our hotel in Uppsala for our final evening at leisure.
BDAY 6
After our fantastic Swedish adventure, we make our way to Arlanda Airport for our late morning Scandinavian Airlines flight to London Heathrow. Those on our Ground Only package will make their way independently to the airport for their chosen flights home.
